Hannah

Hannah is a current sophomore attending school in Korea. She became a member of FemSTEM in 2023, motivated by her strong passion for STEM and helping others that she hopes to inspire other young female students with.

Growing up, Hannah felt like STEM was a huge brick wall that was too difficult to climb. Most often, she felt that she wasn’t talented enough, wasn’t smart enough, and that STEM was a field of far too complex equations and textbooks diagrams of rocks and moon cycles. Her realization of the genuine merit within STEM came much later during her 9th grade biology class as she dug up worms and critters with her classmates to build a self-sustaining terrarium in a small glass jar. Each day that she returned to check on her ecosystem, she was reminded that STEM was more than just stuffy classrooms with students half-asleep from long lectures, but if taught and shared in the right way, it could be one of the most exciting subjects to explore with more than enough to question and uncover.

From then on, she found herself watching Amoeba Sisters and Crash Course over youtube, looking for explanations to questions she couldn’t answer during class. For her, all that was needed was that initial spark that formed a doorway in that brick wall. Her only regret is not being able to start as early as some of her peers, and so, Hannah hopes to empower young girls through FemSTEM through interactive activities and to instill that spark of interest through engaging them in the parts of STEM that they find themselves to be most passionate about.

As of now, Hannah has extended her love for biology and recently embarked on a journey towards exploring the realm of chemistry. Outside of her time in science, she enjoys taking long walks out in nature, listening to music, and reading books about mystery and crime.
