Claire K.

Claire Kim, a current Sophomore at KIS is thrilled to be invited to partake in FemStem in 2024. Claire’s main interests in STEM lie in Biology which is why she is ecstatic to bring not only the joy of biology and programming to FemStem but also to make STEM something beyond simply following instructions and procedures but into a cohesive experience that can answer life’s questions.

Growing up, Claire gravitated towards various aspects of STEM and went into deep YouTube spirals to learn more about robotics, medical procedures, and astronomy. These childhood internet deep dives led her to discover channels like NileRed, Veritasium, and The Thought Emporium which showed her that science is not simply just a class that is taken in school. Rather, a way to bring crazy, chimerical ideas into reality. Immersing herself in Lego robotics, programming, and biology throughout middle and elementary school, Claire learned about the practical implications of STEM which shaped her high school career to be STEM-oriented.

As a high school student, Claire built up her STEM repertoire through courses like AP Biology, AP CSA, and Chemistry. In addition, Claire has taken up other creative endeavors that connect to her interests in STEM such as starting the Music Studio Club this year to teach students how to produce music using modern DAWS and MIDI controllers
