Ashley K.

Ashley is a graduate of KIS now attending Cornell University. She started working with Irene in revitalizing FemSTEM in 2022, starting with establishing the STEM for Girls course for elementary school girls with the funding from the high school department. Throughout high school, she has collaborated with other passionate female scientists and mathematicians to expand the work and influence to local communities and to global platforms.

Her passion for STEM started when she was 13, when she realized that her project for the science honor program was way better than those of the other 26 boys in her class. Her aspiration and goal is to provide safe, inclusive space for other young Ashleys to continue exploring. Her passion is fueled by her own experiences as an ambitious girl in a conservative Korean family, and her determination to step out and create a long-lasting change in her community in a matter of her personal interest.

Ashley is hoping to double major in Physics and Statistical Sciences at university. She describes herself as a combination of skills in physics, enthusiasm for beautiful nebulae, and love for teaching little children. She hopes to attend graduate school and continue her passion for physics and astronomy with high ambitions.

In high school, Ashley also acted as officer of the Competitive Programming club and Math Team, teaching and leading her peers in the competitive aspects of programming and math. In university, she joined the Cornell Figure Skating Club as continuation of her hobby in synchronized skating. She plans to engage in many STEM-related clubs and activities in the future.

If you have a chance to meet her or have any questions, please feel free to reach out any time!
